At some point in high school we read "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. It creeped me out so much, but I fell in love with it. You can read The short story here for free.

This past spring I wanted to reread, so I looked into purchasing a collection of Shirley Jackson's stories. When that option fell through, someone at Borders recommended The Long Walk by Stephen King. This book had a similar feel and many of the same plot points. I loved it but was disturbed by it.

Recently, I was told that I should read The Hunger Games. I got it from the library without even checking what it was about... That was kind of dumb, I know. It turns out that this books seems as though it is going to follow the same premise! I'm only a chapter in and I'm afraid that I may ended up reading this similar plot one too many times...

It makes me wonder if people do any research before they write their books...

Okay, so I do that a lot, I am a nanny, but anyway, this year it seems to have snuck up on me. I have very few ideas on what I should be this year!! A little help would be awesome, also, inexpensive is the name of the game... Nine! One for each of the children with double for Gred and Forge, I mean Fred and George! He had such problems controlling his extremities. I remember the messes in potions class and the shattered pots from herbology. Luckily, I’m rather quick with an under-the-breath ‘Reparo’. This saved him from Slughorn’s ire on multiple occasions. He used to glance over at me and whisper, “Thanks,” as his sheepish grin appeared, and a blush crept up into the tips of his ears.
I blame his blush for causing me to toss my books and drag him into that broom closet the first time.

They never stopped for a moment. They could be standing in front of you, and the next instant they’d be gone, leaving a whiff of gunpowder hanging in the air.

Seeing George immobile, clinging to Fred crushed my heart. I had lost more than Fred—George was the leftover twin and he wasn’t enough to fill the void in Fred and George.

There was nothing I could do but take solace in my husband’s arms. We clung to each other as we mourned the loss of our sons.
