At some point in high school we read "The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson. It creeped me out so much, but I fell in love with it. You can read The short story here for free.
This past spring I wanted to reread, so I looked into purchasing a collection of Shirley Jackson's stories. When that option fell through, someone at Borders recommended The Long Walk by Stephen King. This book had a similar feel and many of the same plot points. I loved it but was disturbed by it.
Recently, I was told that I should read The Hunger Games. I got it from the library without even checking what it was about... That was kind of dumb, I know. It turns out that this books seems as though it is going to follow the same premise! I'm only a chapter in and I'm afraid that I may ended up reading this similar plot one too many times...
It makes me wonder if people do any research before they write their books...

the united states makes up approximately 4.5% of the world's population, and yet somehow, we are managing to use 25% of the world's oil resources... does anyone else see a problem with this?
also, did anyone else noticed that whenever mccain disagreed with obama, he said, "now what senator obama does not understand..."? obama apparently did, as he laughed every time.

So Halloween is definitely my favorite holiday! When else do you get to dress up as someone else and play pretend? Okay, so I do that a lot, I am a nanny, but anyway, this year it seems to have snuck up on me. I have very few ideas on what I should be this year!! A little help would be awesome, also, inexpensive is the name of the game... I'm poor!!
My ideas, so far:
Rosie the Riveter
the Cat's Pajamas (cat costume, but wearing pajamas--it's an old expression)
Medusa
Freudian slip (but I'm not sure how to make my slip Freudian...)
and that is all I have... it is so pathetic!!
